Aftermath of Moving to The City: How Does the Countryside Look Now?

After about 3 weeks into my London journey, I visited my mum and stepdad's side of the family in Norfolk and my brain has already started to change. The countryside now seems… refreshing.

(HUGE apologies for the low-quality meme, it's from a TikTok video, but I just couldn't miss this opportunity. Web link: https://www.tiktok.com/@smartdart2/video/7240489573543922986)

The countryside now has a beauty that I had never seen before when I was living among it. There is a copious amount of fields, it almost seems as though we'd have no where to stay and would consequently have to sleep in the grass. They used to be just green squares with vegetables growing. But as I was looking out the window of the train on my way there, I found myself mesmerised by a sea of shiny emerald.

And these fields belonged to farms, which I always hated visiting because there was just mud for miles. Who the heck wants to get their shoes covered in mud just to see some animals when you could find them online? And the smell – oh my gosh – I just could not stand the manure. But now I realise that they own acres of wilderness and can go out in it whenever they're not working. Talking about work, farmers have one of the most important jobs ever, providing the whole world with food. This just reminds me of Jeremy Clarkson butchering every task on the land because it is just so much harder than you think, but it's very active and motivating work.

I used to feel so awkward visiting small cottages. It just made no sense to me why anyone would want to live in such a small space. You can't fit the washing machine in the kitchen so it has to be in that little cupboard by the back door. And these little cottages sit inside these tiny villages where there is one bus that goes through every two hours and stops at 5 p.m. – that is, if it actually comes. Now that I have a fresh take on it all, tiny cottages are intimate, a place just for you and no one else, where there's nothing to worry about other than you. You're living in your own little bubble.

The countryside is beautiful. But I can't work here, I'll be way too distracted for that very reason. My working life is so important to me (even though it's so ambiguous at the moment) that I will need more space than that little cottage; I need to fit in a desk to write blog posts. I need to get places for inspiration and don't have enough money for a car. And if I were to work on a farm? I'd get so bored doing the same thing day-in and day-out, and I won't think my impatient butt could wait until harvest.

There's so much vibrance in the city. Everyone's busy and it makes me want to be busy. So here I am, with this blog post. I'm so inspired.
