I have just received my script for my next acting class. I'm playing Sarah from Rumour Has It and luckily, I haven't watched the show and don't know the character.

Don't you have to know the character before you play them?
You can create your character just from the script alone. My scene is with Sarah's sister, Annie, and Sarah is comforting her about recent marriage as they sit on Annie's bed from before she said 'I do.'
Since the nature of this scene is very vulnerable, close and caring, I can just see Sarah as an understanding, very thoughtful, and sensitive person, especially towards her little sister. she kind of reminded me of Pam Beesly, just a bit more adventurous, less timid and a tad bit more judgemental.
In romantic relationships, Sarah overthinks to the point that she has different approaches to each interest: she may be impulsive with one and play hard-to-get with another. Men were often put off by that.
Annie is pretty much the only constant in her life. The sisters know exactly how the other's brain works and can get impulsive when they're around those who don't. And this intimate knowledge of each other can result in arguments, but in-turn resolves them relatively quickly.
On issues that concern herself, Sarah has trouble putting words together, for fear communicating the wrong idea. However, it's so much easier when she's solving other people's problems because if she is wrong, it doesn't affect her quite as much. she can offer advice while experimenting with it.
Now replace 'she' and 'they' with 'I' and 'we.'
We get very protective over each other around people who don't know us. She knows how I would react in a certain situation and why. She knows exactly why I'm so good at comforting others. I love my sister, even if she is erratic, but that's just because she takes life so seriously. I wish I could do that. I'm just along for the ride – not in like a hedonistic way, I just go with the flow. Having a bit more control over life would prevent me from getting into situations I don't want to be in.
Trivia
Occupation: COO of a website building company. I absolutely love showing off my administrative and organisational skills and using them to decide what goes on within the company. I get to be so close to the CEO and the pay is pretty good!
Favourite food: pasta. It tastes so good and there are so many different sauces you can have with it.
Hobbies: cooking, makeup and playing board games, funnily enough. I'm actually pretty good at them, I might even go as far as to say I could go up against the pros.
Habits: I've noticed that I often tuck my hair behind my ears when I'm thinking and tilt my head upwards when I'm thinking harder. They both help me concentrate somehow. Ironically, sometimes I can be judgemental of others. I like to think that I'm really great at life, after everything that has happened, and like to think I know what makes other people's lives better. I also communicate a lot with body language.
MBTI type: INFJ. I also want to mention that I am a Virgo.

Don't go too far. You only need to think about these aspects of your character.
In my opinion, it's important not to think about it too much because you still want to be yourself so you can be natural on set. Even though I haven't tried, I can't do method acting. It feels forced and I absolutely can't risk losing myself because my mental health is so important. You should fall in love with the character so you can show your scene partner, the crew and the world how fantastic your character is.
I love how Sarah is so thoughtful and smart, even though she might be a selfish person in reality, but who isn't?
